Introduction to Primary Care Behavioral Pediatrics for Behavior Analysts

This 10-hour continuing education course involves reading the book Introduction to Primary Care Behavioral Pediatrics: A Guide for Behavior Analysts (McGinnis, 2024) and passing a 50-question test with at least an 80% to earn credit. The book itself is not included in the price of the course and may be purchased through Amazon, Routledge, or another bookseller of your choice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The participant will be able to a) describe the niche of primary care behavioral pediatrics and the types of clinical concerns typically addressed in practice, b) explain the assumptions underlying the biomedical model of mental illness versus behavior analytic problem conceptualization, and c) in terms of case formulation, list the clinical metafactors proposed by McGinnis (2024), d) list several assessment methods typical of behavioral pediatric practice, d) describe the role of behavioral parent training in behavioral pediatric treatment, e) explain sleep requirements for children at various ages and the characteristics of typical sleep cycling through the night, f) describe what should be expected for most children in terms of behavioral compliance rate, g) describe the most common and effective treatment approaches used in behavioral pediatrics for anxiety, colic, enuresis, encopresis, and habits and tics, h) list three strategies for the prevention of low treatment adherence, and i) describe an effective strategy to employ when a non-behavioral team member advocates for a pseudoscientific treatment for your client.
