Overview of the ABA Subspecialty of Primary Care Behavioral Pediatrics

THIS COURSE

This 1-CE online asynchronous course is intended as a cost-effective means of initial exploration of the subspecialty of primary care behavioral pediatrics for behavior analysts. Primary care behavioral pediatrics is a practice area serving predominantly neurotypical children and their families and addressing common problems of childhood. This course covers its historical and conceptual foundations, niche, typical clinical concerns addressed, location and collaboration options, characteristics of assessment and treatment, and pathways to practice. A 5-question test follows, on which you must make 80% correct to earn credit.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, the participant will be able to a) describe the niche of primary care behavioral pediatrics and the types of clinical concerns typically addressed in practice, b) explain how behavioral pediatric services are superior in effectiveness to traditional mental health services for children, and c) list two different training avenues to practicing behavioral pediatrics.

J. Chris McGinnis, PhD, BCBA-D, IBA, is a clinical behavior analyst and psychologist, and author of Introduction to Primary Care Behavioral Pediatrics: A Guide for Behavior Analysts published by Routledge in 2024. He is the Director of the Institute for Behavioral Pediatrics, and CEO of McGinnis Behavioral, a private practice based in Jupiter, Florida, USA. He also serves as an ethicist with the ABA Ethics Hotline.
